Here's why I ran for re-election: When Sacramento cut our funding by $25 million over the past three years, I insisted that we carefully examine our priorities. I kept cuts away from vital classroom and job training programs, balanced our budget every year, made sure our pension plan was fiscally sound and avoided faculty layoffs. We now serve more students than we did before the cuts began. We've trained tens of thousands of students for good jobs and our student transfer and graduation success rates are at record levels. With millions in additional state cuts projected, there's more hard work ahead. . .[read more] |
