Please Make Sure You Register to Vote!
Voting is one of the most important duties entrusted to you as a citizen of this country. In order to vote in an election, you must be registered. You must also re-register if you move your residence or wish to change the political party you are affiliated with.
REGISTER TO VOTE
California (San Mateo County) Voter Information
- You must be a citizen of the United States.
- You must be a resident of California.
- You must be 18 years of age or older as of the day of the next election to vote.
- You must NOT be in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony.
- In order to vote in any specific election you must be registered 29 days prior to that election. If your voter registration form is complete, your registration is effective upon receipt by the county clerk/registrar of voters; however, you should not consider yourself registered until you receive a Voter Notification Card. If you do NOT receive a Voter Notification Card call the county clerk/registrar of voters.
- If you wish to receive an absentee ballot by mail, a written application must be on file with the county clerk/registrar of voters' office at least 7 days before the election. After the 7-day deadline you may apply for and vote an absentee ballot at that office either in person or through an authorized representative.

Alternatively, to register to vote, you can obtain an official form from a Post
Office, Dept. of Motor Vehicles office, or many City/County office buildings,
then return the completed and signed Voter Registration Form to:
